RE: Which Fifth Wheel to buy?

We looked at all the brands you listed. We liked the heartland Bighorn but went with the Montana because of the floor plan. After one 1200 mile trip we are happy with our choice & I have owned 8 rvs. I have heard that carrige is the only one that makes their own frame. Hope that whatever you get was made on a good day at the factory!

RE: Automatic Awning Question

I was told to bring it in at 10 mph. When I am away from trailer & at night I will bring it in as I have had a manuel one ripped off. I believe there is a way to fix for extended stays but since its new I am still working on minor problems.

RE: Titanium 5th Wheels

I traded 07 Lareado for 08 Titanium thinking I was moving way up. I did but mainly in price. The titanium nose doesn't make it pull any better, the quality control is no btter than USA. I am now towing 09 Montana with best quality control so far. I have owned 8 Rvs.

RE: comments on a new fiver. Montana 3465

My personal opinon is the 2009 had more to offer than the 08-JMO!

RE: Hankook tires

Just to get the facts straight! I double checked my brothers tires (I made the original post) & these Korean tires were made in china just like most everything else!!!!

RE: Hankook tires

First would be to get the facts straight :). They're Korean manufactured tires. I run Hankooks as drive tires on my tow vehicle and have had no problems. Couldn't say the same for GY. They are, as of 2006, the 7th largest global tire manufacturer.

Hankook tires

My brother had a blow-out in a small town & had to buy 2 hankook tires. He's thinking about buying some more. Anybody got any feedback on these chinese tires?

RE: Problems with Montana RV

If you read this forum long enough you are going to see these problems on almost any rv out there and you will read the same replys. This orginal post leaves lots of questions hanging? I have delt with keystone & they did everything they were supposed to do. when you pull out of your drive you have got to use your own experence & lady luck to get to your destination. The thing I like about this forum ,you will see more real problems than on a owners forum. Good Luck to everybody out there & check your rig good at every stop. Dawayne

RE: What brands of tires to look at for new fiver?

Yet another post about someone changing perfectly good brand new tires because of the mania on this forum about tires. I just dont get it, why would you do this. Quit listening to all the doom and gloom on the forum about tire issues. Yes a few posters report tire failures, however very few can say with any degree of certanty what caused it, its always easiest to say "cheap chinese tires". Any number of factors could have caused these failures, inflation, overloading, over the speed limit of the tire, road debris or a combination of them. The number of posters here reporting tire failures are a small percentage of the RV population in toto. I have had many years of good luck with the dreaded Carlisle tires, I wonder why that is? Save your money, use your brand new tires until they need replacing and go camping. -rog

RE: how long should I wait

Several postings say fix before you pay, but after you pull off the lot, your at their mercy because the factory has little control over the dealers. Most of the service tech's are low paid handy men. I now contact the factory service tech, tell him my problem, take the 5er to a local independant shop get it fixed fast ( they want your business)pay & get reinbursed by the factory. This might not work with every company but as you can see on the forum every brand can have big problems because of poor quality control. My expereanse with service departments has been really bad & I try to fix most things my self.I had one dealer keep my rig 5 wks, told me to come get it & their was still one maijor thing that was't fixed. Call the service tech everyday & ask hows everything going. Good luck!

16000 Hijacker single pivot hitch

At present I have a hijacker single pivot hitch & unless every thing is perfect most of the time it is very hard to unhitch even using all the suggestions on different threads. I can replace the single with a double pivot head, same brand fairly cheap. Is this going to solve most of my problems? Help!

RE: Trailer Tires

I just checked my 08 gy & there made in usa. I suspect trailer manufactures have found a way to put cheap gy on trailers & most of us would assume there made in us.

RE: Goodyear Marathons

I have had goodyear marathons on 3 5ers & a maxed out boat trailer, no flats no blow outs & I just went & checked my present maxed out rig & they say made in usa. I purchased an 07 lareado that had milestar chinese tires & all 4 delaminated within 1000 miles. Replaced with goodyear. I have run chinese tires on equipment trailers for several years with no problems. theres good & bad manufactures but i would stay away from chinese tires on a travel trailer. I am thinking uniroyal LT as far as quality & price,as I was told that michilin now owns them. Any one got a opinion on this . I run them on pu & they seam fine!

RE: Special modifications for a short bed truck?

I have pulled 4 different 5ers with a chevy short bed truck without any problems. It depends on the pin placement & how the nose of the trailer is shaped. Most of the new trailers I have saw Will clear. The dealer will be very adament about selling you a slider hitch(more money). My hitch man advised against the slider and it worked out for me. I would get a double pivot hitch as it is easier to unhitch. If you get a slider hitch spend a little money & get one thats easy to operate as not all are created equal! Good Luck .

RE: OK, NOW I FOUND A PROBLEM! NO DUMP

Your problems are very familiar to a lot of people who have purchased new rvs cheap or expensive. I am a retired home builder, if my final inspection had been like rv company's I would have been digging ditches, ditto on the pdi. Good luck!

RE: fuel milage with new 5th wheel

With the duramax you don't need any kind of programer. Your getting about as good a mileage as your going to get. My mileage didn't increase after 25000 miles.

RE: Finding Slide Leak?

I had an 07 315 rl with simalair leak. Mine had some drainage cups at each side, the service tech drilled some holes so they would drain better, problem solved. You might take a look at that.

RE: Jayco Designer VS Montana

On purchase of any new rv you are subject to luck of the draw as far as problems are concerned. Final inspection leaves much to be desired at factorys and dealers that i have delt with. I agree that both are good units & likely montana has the highist resale.I have owned 8 different rvs and at present have an 08 Glendale titanium & really like it.Just minor problems so far. Good luck on your decision! dawayne
